Charles Was The Perfect PI Resource
For the DeLonghi Radiator Heater Recall Program, Charles was the perfect resource to help locate owners of defective DeLonghi oil-filled heaters and have them identify they owned one of these faulty heaters.

DeLonghi Appliances manufactured more than 3.5 million oil-filled radiator heaters between 1980 and 1988 that had three design and/or construction defects, which produce a risk of ignition. DeLonghi has recalled only 250,000; so over 3 million defective space heaters are now part of a global recall and replacement program.

Charles Leveraged Craig’s List
Knowing it was easier to track down heater owners in major cities, Charles turned to Craig’s List, starting in San Francisco.

He said, “My searching method will find many, if not most, of the heaters that are on Craig’s List. The problem is that Craig’s List is one of only many different platforms. The only way to get this message out is through wide-scale publicity.

“Anybody using the (DeLonghi) heaters is at risk. Mostly, lower income people rely on heaters. Those at risk for the most tragic type of incident would be households where the heaters are used in children’s bedrooms. The danger is the switch shorting out and actually causing plastic to burn, or other materials to burn, that could potentially ignite the oil in the heater.

“The oil in a heater is just like oil in a pan on a stove. At a certain high temperature, the oil can ignite. So even if the heater is used properly, a catastrophic fire could occur.”

Take Part in the DeLonghi Radiator Heater Recall Program
The CPSC is requesting that all owners of the defective DeLonghi oil-filled heaters manufactured between 1980 to 1988 participate in their heater replacement program.

Just call 1-800-322-3848 to request that DeLonghi replace the potentially flammable portable electric radiator in your home or office. Then cut your unit’s power cord, mail it back to DeLonghi America, and they will send you a new replacement heater.
